My most valuable lessoned learned…

Drug abuse rehabs taught me a valuable lesson: everybody’s got problems. If you only fill your brain with boob tube programming and all the other junk that’s known to come our way as Americans, you may be inclined to believe that drug abuse rehabs are filled to the brim with degenerates and losers. Now, I’m not saying those kind of people aren’t in there too, but you’d probably be surprised at the amount of normal people there are in there. You see drug abuse doesn’t discriminate. People from all walks of life have problems that they think they can’t shake and they turn to drugs or alcohol just like anyone else can. It’s so funny to me that we live in the land of the free and the home of the brave, but we have more stereotypes here than in most parts of the world.

Hey, I’m not perfect either. I used to think that drug abuse rehabs were all filled with hookers and panhandlers too. I was so surprised when I finally got to rehab and I met teachers, doctors, lawyers, and even soccer moms that had problems just like me. It was like we were all in it together. All these people that I may have never met in my life were all fighting for the same cause that I was—sobriety. It was a truly great experience because it taught a valuable lesson: you never know what someone else is going through.
