Interventions can actually come in many different forms. It could be a friend or family member who talks with the alcoholic and convinces him or her to get alcohol treatment. It could also be someone else, like a doctor or a religious leader. In many cases, the judicial system ends up doing the intervening if the addict is arrested for drug possession, drug dealing, stealing, or probation violation. A good drug or alcohol rehab program looks much better to most addicts than spending time behind bars. The addict may also overdose, landing him or her in the hospital.
