You can’t hope your way to sobriety
Let me guess: You need drug treatment. Fantastic…you and fifteen million other Americans. If beating drug addiction were simply a matter of recognizing that you need drug rehab, the country wouldn’t be so rife with drug abuse. Of course, that’s not the way recovery happens; drug treatment, when it works, works only because drug addicts actively seek it out, and because drug treatment patients commit themselves to the healing process.
To put it simply: You can’t hope your way to sobriety. If you’re going to get better for good, you’re going to have to work for it.
What that means, of course, is that successful drug treatment has to start with self-education: with the sort of knowledge accumulation that will help you understand what to expect during your drug treatment experience. Remember, you can’t fight what you can’t see. To beat drug addiction for good, you’ve got to approach drug treatment with open eyes and a clear head. Anything less just isn’t good enough.
